Macedonia is Balkan champion in Handball

In the last match of the tournament, Macedonia beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 34:31. For best player on the tournament Macedonia’s Filip Mirkulovski and his team mate Borko Ristovski received the award for best goalkeeper. Second place went to Serbia, and third to Bosnia. more

No Switch For Macedonia v Scotland Game

MACEDONIA have promised their World Cup qualifier against Scotland will not be moved out of the country.
There had been fears the game might be switched to Sofia in Bulgaria if new floodlights at the Gradski Stadium in Skopje, which is being redeveloped, are not in place in time for the September 6 clash. more

Macedonia 18-9 Mexico
Skopje, 03 March 2008 (HIM)
The quest for the remaining Olympic berths is to be decided in the incoming days,in the upcoming Men’s FINA Olympic Games Qualification Tournament in Oradea, Romania.
On Sunday Macedonia easily beat Mexico 18-9 in its first match. In the remaining matches Macedonia will face Italy, Canada, Germany and Iran. It has to finish at least third to stay in the race for a Beijing berth.

PRESTON LIONS UNLUCKY AS NEW SEASONS BEGINS

Macedonian Australian football club and reigning Victoria Premier league (Foxtel Cup) champions, Preston Lions started the new season with a 1-5 loss against Richmond in round one of the Foxtel Cup. This week the Lions took on the Whittlesea Zebra’s in round 2 of the Foxtel Cup which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Macedonia is down one place to 61st in the latest FIFA rankings.
Skopje 14 February 2008 (HIM)
African national teams have surged in the latest FIFA rankings. There was plenty of movement lower down after the African Cup of Nations, with tournament host Ghana becoming the continent’s highest ranked team. Ghana have surged to 14th, up 29 places, as a result of their performance in the African Cup of Nations.

Macedonia and Serbia draw 1-1 in friendly
SKOPJE, Feb 7 (HIM)
- A 58th-minute goal by defender Nikolce Novevski earned Macedonia a 1-1 home draw with neighbours Serbia, who were playing their first game under new coach Miroslav Djukic, in a friendly on Wednesday.
Novevski pounced on a blunder by Serbia’s substitute keeper Damir Kahriman and tapped the ball home from seven metres after Danko Lazovic had fired the visitors ahead with a 43rd-minute volley.

This game in Skope is just first one in a series of further test matches for the Macedonian squad. The next one will be vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina as they look to keep it local. Macedonian fans want their side to play a somewhat more significant role at the 2010 World Cup qualification rounds, and will hope for a surprise against very strong rivals like Holland, Scotland, and Norway.

FIRST WIN FOR THE MACEDONIAN HOCKEY TEAM
Ohrid, 4 February 2008 (HIM)
The Macedonian national hockey team has celebrated it’s official first match with a 5-4 win against a team made up of representatives of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Skopje.
The Dutch team was lead by the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Simone Filipini who herself is a good hockeyplayer. She stated that the Netherlands is allready active in promoting hockey in Macedonia by providing equipment for the national team and several hockey clubs. Also talks are underway to link the Macedonian hockey federation with a good Dutch hockey club. "I’m sure in the next few years such friendly games will continue, but also many official matches", Filipini said.

Macedonian football fans have chosen the best Macedonian players for 2007 and the best Macedonian 11. As expected, Goran Pandev was the most voted player and named as best Macedonian player for 2007.
