Ministry of Local Government announces second call for Inter-Municipal Cooperation grants

Macedonia’s Ministry of Local Self-Government in partnership with the UNDP announced Thursday a second call for Inter-Municipal Cooperation grants.
The Inter-Municipal Cooperation (IMC) project aims to contribute to the improvement of the quality of public services provision at a local level through the enhancement of inter-municipal cooperation in the context of ongoing decentralization reform in the country and the EU integration process. more

Cornerstone laying ceremony for sports hall in Skoje settlement Butel
Skopje, August 20, 2010 (HIM)
Primer Nikola Gruevski, Vice Premier Abdulakim Ademi and Education Minister Nikola Todorovski laid a cornerstone Thursday for a new sports hall in Skopje settlement Butel. The new facility, which is to be ready early next year, is part of the Government’s project for construction of 145 sports halls in the elementary, high schools across Macedonia.

DM Konjanovski meets US-Turkish delegation

Minister of Defense Zoran Konjanovski met Monday with a US-Turkish delegation, made up of 18 US congressional staffers and representatives of the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA). At the meeting, which was attended by Deputy Defense Minister Emil Dimitriev and Chief of ARM Staff Lieutenant-General Miroslav Stojanovski, DM Konjanovski thanked the delegation for its support, the Ministry said in a press release.

Macedonia to mark ARM Day

A series of celebratory events will mark the Day of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia (ARM), August 18. A display of ARM’s military vehicles, combat vehicles and firearms will be held at the military stadium in Skopje City Park from 12 pm to 8 pm. The display will wrap up with a concert to mark the 18th birthday of Macedonian Army.

US congressional delegation to visit Macedonia

The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) will hold a press conference Monday at Holiday Inn hotel in Skopje, in relation to three-day visit of US congressional delegation. The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) is sponsoring a delegation of 18 senior Congressional staffers to Macedonia and Turkey. TCA and the United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) are working together to educate the senior advisors about the primary issues of importance facing both nations and the status of their relationships with the United States.

President Ivanov to launch training for young leaders

Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov will mark the start today in Ohrid of a training course for young leaders - a project organised by his cabinet. In addition to the President, US Ambassador to Macedonia Philip Reeker will also address the ceremony.

Education Ministry to publish tender on equipping laboratories at university medical institutions
Skopje, August 16, 2010 (HIM)
The Ministry of Education and Science said Sunday it would publish a tender on procurement of 56 research laboratories in the field of medical sciences for public university and scientific institutions in Macedonia, worth EUR 11 million. The laboratories should be equipped in the course of 2011, whereas institutions are obliged to put them into function 15 days upon delivery.

President Ivanov: Framework Agreement is specific Macedonian model of multiethnic society

The Ohrid Framework Agreement, created to overcome hostilities in the Republic of Macedonia, is a specific Macedonian model of multiethnic society based on integration without assimilation, founded on the country's tradition of mutual respect among ethnic communities, said President Gjorge Ivanov at Friday's debate "Ohrid Framework Agreement Today and in Perspective".
Ivanov stressed the model is an open project, including the requirements of each generation, which makes it dynamic.

Memorial service for the five students killed in Strumica

The memorial service at the graves of five students at the city of Strumica Strumica cemetery and take flowers to their memorial monument was marked 59th anniversary of their murder. In 1951 Strumica students Belev Boris Mirko Pece, Jarmo George, George Kosturanov Stevo ball and were secretly killed by the then government because of their ideas for an independent and sovereign Macedonia.

Prespa to its old glory!

In striking a weekend in August Prespa were about 20,000 tourists, a figure that already years ago do not remember
Crowded beaches, accommodation, cafes filled to the last place - it is this summer prekrasnioto character of Prespa Lake. Locals are pleased that this year the lake level is higher, and in depth in some areas reaches up to 2.5 meters more. In striking a weekend in August Prespa were about 20,000 tourists, a figure that already years ago are not remembered.
