Another meeting between Nikola Gruevski and Georgeous Papandreou

Deputy Minister of Interior of Greece Dimitris Drutsas will probably meet with the UN envoy for the Greek – Macedonian dispute on the name issue within the frames of the UN General Assembly in New York, spokesman of the Greek Foreign Minster Grigoris Dalaverkuras said, cited by the Macedonian A1 television channel.

Macedonians faithful to Greece as others stay away

Who said Greece and Macedonia do not get along with each other? Every summer Macedonians invade Greece, this one was no exception. It makes it difficult to imagine there is a longstanding and acute problem between the two countries.
The name dispute and the constant verbal fighting between politicians do not stop thousands of Macedonians visiting their Greek neighbours all year long, but especially in the summer.

Macedonia delegation to meet Nimetz in New York

Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Milososki announced that Macedonia's delegation taking part at this year's main session of the UN General Assembly in late September would meet with mediator Matthew Nimetz, adding that he had no information on a possible fresh proposal in overcoming the long-standing name dispute with Greece.
In an interview with Alsat TV, Milososki said that Nimetz was an experienced diplomat and was probably expecting some kind of positive signal from the frequent bilateral meetings between Macedonian and Greek officials and a favourable climate to be created in order a breakthrough regarding the issue to be made.

Ethnos upset with Reeker Because He Makes Sense

The United States taps Skopje on the shoulder" is the comment of Greek daily "Ethnos" regarding the latest statement of US Ambassador to Macedonia Philip Reeker that Washington's position with regard to a name settlement between Greece and Macedonia doesn't envisage the constitutional name or the Constitution of the country to be changed.

European diplomats bypass Skopje

A month before the progress report on Macedonia the political message the European Commission is sending to the country is not good. This is the conclusion of the National Council for European Integration, Macedonian Vreme daily writes.
Council members say the fact that the European diplomats are bypassing Macedonia is a piece of evidence supporting the above mentioned conclusion. However, Deputy Prime Minister Vasko Naumovski thinks this year is the most successful one for the transposition of European legislation into the Macedonian one, the newspaper writes.

Macedonian EU support still strong but decreasing

A majority of Macedonians is still supporting the country's bid for EU membership – but the numbers are dwindling and nowhere near as high as they used to be.
Sixty percent of Macedonian citizens think their country entering into the European Union would be a good thing, according to the latest Eurobarometer. Last autumn, the figure stood at 66 percent. The number of people who believe that EU membership will bring benefits to Macedonia has decreased to 73 percent, down from 76 percent last year.

FM Milososki meets Portuguese Secretary of State for European Affairs

Foreign Minister Antonio Milososki and Portuguese Secretary of State for European Affairs Pedro Lourtie discussed Tuesday in Skopje on further development of bilateral relations and cooperation. Milososki reaffirmed Macedonia’s strategic goals - the European Union and NATO membership - and to that effect sought for Portugal’s support, especially in terms of opening the EU accession talks.

Most likely Macedonia will not support Serbia’s resolution on Kosovo

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been making final analyses for defining Macedonia’s position on official Belgrade’s draft resolution on Kosovo, which is to be a subject of discussion of the UN General Assembly on September 9, but most likely the country will not support the document.

Eurobarometer: For 60% of Macedonians EU membership is a good thing, for 73% is beneficial

Nearly two thirds of Macedonians believe that EU membership is a good thing for the country and that it would benefit from being a member, shows a survey by Eurobarometer, which was conducted by EU's statistical service, Eurostat.
The opinion poll says 60% of the citizens in Macedonia think that EU membership is good for the country, 11% deem it is bad and 27% think it is neither good nor bad. Compared to a previous Eurostat poll this past fall, the number of those supporting EU integration has lowered by six percents and of those against it has increased by two percents. Despite dropping to 3%, the number of those believing that EU membership would be beneficial for the country is 73%.

United Macedonians Organization of Canada Supports Call to End Name Negotiations

The United Macedonians Organization of Canada (UM) proudly supports the Our Name is Macedonia ad campaign, initiated by Macedonian Human Rights Movement
International (MHRMI) and the Australian Macedonian Human Rights Committee (AMHRC). The campaign demands that the Republic of Macedonia end all negotiations with Greece over its name.
For over 50 years, the United Macedonians Organization of Canada has been working to defend Macedonian rights throughout Macedonia and the world. Macedonians must unite and tell the Macedonian government, and the world, that the name negotiations must be stopped.
